through the research retreat “playing memu” with Makoto Nomura, we have reread the environment of Memu and its surround as a non-reproducible sound studio where the place gives creation to noble sound.
野村誠さんとのリサーチ・リトリート「めむとあそぶ」を介し、メムという場所とその環境を、再現性のない音のスタジオであり、固有の音を生み出す場であると、再読しました。
メムという場所の読み方として、スタジオという箱がなくても浜辺や森の中、氷の張った沼の上をスタジオとして読み替えていける、建物なき建築的空間である音響スタジオが集まった場所が認知されました。
「memu field studio」

まだ雪が降る前の12月の初旬、少しずつ凍りはじめている沼の表面は張力により、大きなプレートリバーブとなります。まだ踏み入れるには凍り切っていない岸辺周辺が、フィールドスタジオとなります。12月下旬、降雪とともにリバーブは消え、踏み入れるのに十分凍った沼全体が、広大なスタジオに変化します。3月下旬、溶け始めた沼の表面に、北に帰っていく途中の渡鳥が羽を休める中、三浦永美子さんによるフィールド・スタジオの演奏を収録しました。
Through the exploration, we have discovered Memu as a field studio, where the surrounding environment has already prepared us for sound studios. During the early December when the snow has not fallen yet, gradually icing lake tensions to prepare large plate reverb. Not yet hardened enough to step onto, the shore of Oikamanaito and Horkayanto can become two studios. The reverb disappears as snow falls at the end of December or so, by then, the whole lake has iced thick enough to step onto, making it a vast studio to explore sound. Later in March, pianist Emiko Miura has played the studio with synthesizer and PA system on ice. This time, the migrant birds were returning up north, where we shared the resting environment with them.
